Superlab Launches: A Film Production Company Dedicated to the Future of Food and Materials.

LOS ANGELES — Superlab, a Los Angeles-based film production company, launches to accelerate the adoption of future-food and sustainable materials through creative documentaries, commercials, and social media.

Founded by filmmaker Mike Malagon, Superlab leverages over a decade of experience working with prominent brands like Patagonia, Airbnb, Microsoft, Google, and Coinbase. Malagon is now channeling his expertise into storytelling that highlights innovative solutions aimed at creating a more sustainable and humane food system and materials that leave nature untouched.

“At Superlab, our goal is simple,” says Malagon. “Advancements in food and materials hold an outsized potential to improve the environment, protect animals, and ensure global food security all at once. However, these innovations often face skepticism due to a lack of understanding. That’s where we come in. Superlab is a storytelling machine built to accelerate the transition towards a future where people can enjoy the foods and products they love without the ethical and environmental costs.”

Superlab has already collaborated with industry leaders like Change Foods, a precision fermentation startup developing dairy ingredients without the need for cows.

"Collaborating with Mike on the brand story video for Change Foods was one of the highlights of early days at Change,” said Irina Gerry, CMO of Change Foods. “Mike brought unmatched expertise, passion, and insight to the project, exceeding our expectations by co-developing the concept and script with us. Having someone of Mike’s caliber working on this project was invaluable. The outcome was a video that beautifully captures the essence of Change Foods, making our story both compelling and easy to understand."

Allison Begalman, co-founder of the Hollywood Climate Summit, emphasizes the significance of Superlab’s role: “Food is a critical yet often overlooked element in climate change communication. Superlab’s unique expertise in storytelling around plant-based innovation is vital for shifting both cultural and consumer mindsets toward a more sustainable future.”

As Superlab looks to the future, the company actively seeks partnerships with creatives, marketing professionals, ad agencies, and industry leaders equally committed to shaping the narrative around food and material innovations. This is a call to action for those who see the transformative potential of these industries and want to be part of shaping a new narrative for the movement.
